Green living is a whole way of life

 

Chef Steve Rose, is a third-generation San Franciscan, who transplanted himself to Sonoma County's wine country to open his own restaurant in 1981. For over thirty-five years he has owned and operated the Vineyard's Inn Spanish Bar and Grill. Focusing on authentic recipes from a true bastion of flavors from Spain, representing his family's food laden heritage.

Earlier in his career, after graduating from culinary school, Steve went straight to work for top restaurants in San Francisco, CA, Lake Tahoe, NV and Newport Beach, CA. In 1981 Steve took charge of his own wine-country restaurant, the Vineyards Inn Spanish Bar & Grill in Kenwood, California. The Vineyard's Inn was chosen as the Greenest restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008 by an outstanding Berkeley, California based organization. Over the years, Steve Rose has developed a thorough understanding of the restaurant business from food preparation to management and everything in between. Steve and his wife closed the Vineyards Inn, in May, 2016, after 35 years of service.

Steve Rose is also a rancher, teacher and vintner, preparing and cooking his own home-grown organic foods since 1981. Steve grows most of his food in the heart of Sonoma County’s premier wine region at his Kenwood, California, “Rose Ranch”. The ranch has organic and biodynamic certifications from the top ratings organizations in the United States, raising some of the highest quality grown organic foods and grapes in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Chef Steve Rose has personally written articles on green and organic issues for many San Francisco Bay Area publications, and is currently writing a book on the subject. He has been a panel speaker and presenter at university level symposiums focusing on sustainability in the national Hotel & Restaurant industry. Steve is a leader in a growing composting movement in California, that aims to make composting as mainstream as recycling in schools nationwide. Going well beyond culinary endeavors, Steve has built Casa Verde, a one-of-a-kind house that was created using mostly recycled and re-purposed materials. Casa Verde is one of the highest rated green homes in Northern California.

Steve is always sharing the many ways to bring sustainable, efficient and healthy choices into all aspects of everyday life.
